The Barley Sheaf at Gorran is a thriving great British pub set near the costal path of Gorran haven. The focus of The Barley Sheaf and the ethos of Dan and his team are to operate a pub which they would love to come to use themselves. A place serving unpretentious sustainable food, fantastic selection of beer and wine offering, great value for money and accessible for all to enjoy.Â
The Barley Sheaf at Gorran Churchtown, Cornwall is a Grade II listed pub and restaurant that dates back to 1837. It started as a local hangout for miners, and is now a well-known gastro pub. William Kendall built the pub in 1837 as a way to defy publicans who had banned him from other local pubs.

Behind every great menu there is an even better head chef. Dan Hyams, our enthusiastic Director & Head Chef, is responsible for the delicious plates that arrive at your table each day and night. Cooking is in Dan’s DNA, since he was a young child, he has always had an interest in creating dishes that reflect his love and passion for really good quality ingredients.
But to really enjoy his food, you first need to know a little bit about him and what makes Dan so special. So, we sat down with Dan and delved a little deeper into who he is.
From working in various Michelin star kitchens and Head chef of the Headland Hotel whilst under his guidance they won their 5* award. Dan has taken his pride and work all over our globe working in France it was one of the main reasons for why he moved to France to learn and train. It was a real eye opener and allowed him to enjoy their culture even more.
In November 2024, Dan & his team took over The Barley Sheaf Pub in Gorran, His goal was to create a relaxed pub serving the best quality food and drink in the area, a vision he has achieved with the support of his fantastic team.
